金魚や熱帯魚など観賞魚を飼育している愛好家の中には、魚の飛び出し事故を経験した方もいるかと思います。
お魚館管理人（著者）は小学生のころ・・・、
水槽から蓋をぶちまけて飛び出し、翌朝、干からびた状態でシルバーアロワナ（40cm）が☆になって見つかったなんてこともありました。
他にもたくさん飛び出し事故を経験しています・・・。
高価な魚ほど精神的なダメージはでかいです・・・(;O;)

そんな中、
なんと！
金魚鉢から飛び出した金魚が7時間以上も水の外に放置されているにも関わらず、生還したという奇跡のような出来事がありました。

The tale may sound a bit fishy, but experts last night said it was ' theoretically possible'.
Sparkle's owner Paula Dunster, 46, was mystified when she noticed the fish missing from the bowl it shares with fellow goldfish Malcolm.
Initially she thought the fish had died and her partner had removed her from the tank.
However, when he insisted he hadn't the mystery deepened.
Miss Dunster, of Redcar, said: 'We didn't know what had happened but I thought I'd get another fish because the other one was on his own.
'The man in the pet shop told me he might have jumped out of the tank so when I got back home I looked behind the dresser that the tank was on and I could see him, absolutely covered in dog hair.'
The mother of four assumed Sparkle was dead because at least seven hours had passed since she had spotted her missing.
But she didn't have the heart to flush the little fish away so decided to clean off some of the dog hair under a tap. As she did so Sparkle started moving.
'I couldn't believe it,' said Miss Dunster. 'I was really shocked and my daughter said it was a miracle. It had been down there for so long.'
Despite the the light battering Sparkle was 'doing well' last night.
A spokesman for the National Marine Aquarium, in Plymouth, said of the tale: 'It's possible but unlikely because once they are out of water they are normally so stressed they die pretty quickly.'
He said, however, that if the fish had been able to remain calm it could have lowered its metabolic rate and survived with just a coating of water.
お魚館管理人（著者）が赤字で強調してみましたが、
いくつかの要因が重なって、この金魚は生還したみたいですね。
以下に生還した要因を簡単に説明します。
①金魚が飛び出したタンスの裏は犬（飼い犬）の毛がたくさんあった。（これとても重要！）
②金魚は落下後、脳震盪かなにかを起こして気絶し動かなくなった。（一番重要！）
③これは著者の推測ですが、タンスの裏はじめじめして湿気があった。（または、少し水槽の水がこぼれた）
記事中の専門家（National Marine Aquarium）の意見でも述べていますが、
観賞魚は水槽の外（水の外）に飛び出すと過度のストレス＆暴れて体力を消耗し死にますが、
この金魚のようにジッと動かないで代謝速度を遅らせることで長時間生き延びることもありえるそうです。
また、水分を帯びた犬の毛で覆われていたのも生還した重要な要因でしょう。

ちなみに、この生還した金魚は和金かコメットである点も見逃せません。
なぜなら、フナ（鮒）に近い金魚の品種はその分、生命力がありますから。
金魚が7時間以上も金魚鉢の外にいたにもかかわらず生還するある日金魚の飼い主であるPaula Dunsterさん（46歳）は、SparkleとMalcolmと名付けられた2匹の金魚がいる金魚鉢の中にMalcolmしかいないため、 Sparkleが死んで家族が処分したと思っていたそうです。しかし、ペットショップの店員に「ジャンプして金魚鉢の中から飛び出したのかもしれない」と言われたためドレッサーの後ろを調べてみると、ほとんど動きのないSparkleを発見。
PaulaさんがSparkleがいなくなっていることに気が付いてから7時間以上経過しているため、もう死んでいると思いきや、水につけるとSparkleは元気に動き出したそうです。娘のKelly（14歳）も「奇跡だ」と驚いていたとのこと。
